Welcome to Part 27 of the series "Dear Future Spouse." It's time to savor the holidays! Great food! Great family memories! A loving God! These are real people who are writing to their future King and Queen. They do not personally know each other, but they are getting to know each other through the letters. Each week, you will find a response to the letter before. So, grab some coffee, tea, or tissue, and enjoy! Tell us what you think!
Dear Future Wife,
I love that fact you are striving to become closer and closer with God. How is your experience with the daily devotionals The Bible Matters app? I’m about to begin reading Proverbs again. It’s something because this is the first book of the Bible my mom began reading to me and had me read as a child. Now years later, this specific book is so relevant to me as I become a more mature adult. Moreover, it’s a blessing to able to share our personal relationship with God together as we become one in Him! I mean He is the reason for the seasons, and speaking of seasons…yes, the family oriented holidays are coming up, and I am as excited as you are about them! I enjoyed responding to your questions, and I look forward to hearing your responses as well…
*What are some of your favorite traditions from Thanksgiving and Christmas?
Similar to you, I have also grown to love the fall/winter holidays. I cherish making memories with family more and more as I become older. For instance, during Thanksgiving last year, we watched the entire season of Luke Cage, cracked jokes, talked about our younger days, and yes ate that good ole homemade soul food. As for Christmas, we usually wait for my family to come over before we open presents and eat; our favorite place to hangout is in the kitchen.
*What are some new ones you would hope to start with me and our future children?
Hmm, during Thanksgiving, I have always wanted to teach our kids the family recipes, so as they get older, they can pass them down to their kids. Likewise, for Christmas, I would love for all of us to go pick out a tree and decorate it together, or if we decide on not getting a real tree, we can still decorate it together. Also, I would like for us to watch Christmas movies, play games, and go to a Christmas parade together. I just want to make special memories for those holidays!
*What are some of your favorite holiday dishes?
For Thanksgiving my favorite dish is my grandma’s chicken dressing. I appreciate the ham and turkey, but if the chicken dressing is not on the table; it’s not Thanksgiving lol. Next, I enjoy my mother’s strawberry cake, Lawd Jesus, it just touches my soul lol. Yep, those are my two must have dishes. As for Christmas, it varies because the dish choices vary each year. One year, it’s Thanksgiving mealish; another year, it’s your everyday soulfood (from chicken to cornbread). Then, another year, we may do jambalaya and seafood type dishes. I enjoy them all though!
*How about you…
