Welcome to Part 28 of the series "Dear Future Spouse." It's time to savor the holidays! Great food! Great family memories! A loving God! These are real people who are writing to their future King and Queen. They do not personally know each other, but they are getting to know each other through the letters. Each week, you will find a response to the letter before. So, grab some coffee, tea, or tissue, and enjoy! Tell us what you think!
Dear Future Husband,
I really enjoyed “The Bible Matters Because ____” devotional series because it was so relatable to today’s world. Last week’s series shared stories of why it’s so important to have the Bible translated in everyone’s native language or their “heart’s language” so they can truly meet the Savior. Hearing their stories made me think of the Great Commission to go out and make disciples of the world. I heard this my whole life and always wondered how or where to start. Supporting ministries that translate the Bible is something so new to me yet so enlightening and impactful. I look forward to finding a way to help hopefully in the not so distant future.
Regarding your other questions about the holidays:
Thanksgiving = Fried Turkey ️️️. My daddy would make it every year, but after he passed, I hadn’t had any for 6 years, until my brother taught himself how to make it. I’m transitioning towards different diet habits, but Thanksgiving Fried Turkey might be my cheat day/food item. Christmas dinner, however, was never really big for us. We always had a huge breakfast/brunch spread which I enjoy because breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.
I cannot let a Christmas season fall without watching Whitney Houston’s “The Preacher’s Wife.” The past few years I’ve actually found myself doing my holiday baking while watching the movie by coincidence. Like you, I want everyone to decorate the tree together the Friday after Thanksgiving while listening to The Temptations’ “Silent Night” and Donnie Hathaway’s “This Christmas.” I also want to read Scriptures related to the Advent story every evening leading up to Christmas Day. I don’t want the holidays to become too materialistic. I want the focus to be on faith and family.
With all the turmoil, strife and racial tension going on in the world, it could easily be so disheartening and discouraging. I personally know people affected by Hurricane Irma in Houston. I know people affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. High school friends were in Las Vegas for the music festival. I’ve had debates with other acquaintances about the White House response to these and other incidents like the NFL taking a knee. I know we won’t agree on everything, but I would hope that we can find some common ground as husband and wife.
I know we are to pray for our political leaders, but what are your thoughts on what they’re doing currently for our country? As family oriented as we both are, have you ever considered moving out of the country and becoming an expatriate?
I look forward to hearing from you soon. I pray that you will stay safe and have a prosperous week.
Love always,
Your Future Wife
